I think the horse will be a good thing for Shem, he seems to like the horse, in spite of a few imperfections. Plus, he can get around faster. As long as the horse is happy, SHem will be happy.
I wonder where the horse and Shem are going to go. Into battle could be a challenge for both! Back to the farm, could be a good thing. You are right that Shem will be happy, most of the time. If they start shooting at them, it might be a different story. We'll have to wait and see.
I think it will be a good thing for his mental health such as it causes him to be happy so that would be a plus because he never got to have his own horse. Now, I agree with Mr. Kelley that if they get into trouble in battle such as being shot at that would be a difficult time for them because the horse is not in the best condition so it will be harder to get away or recover from further injury. He has wanted a horse his whole life though so at least he has gotten one of his lifetime wishes. I think it depends on how the battle's turn out. If they return to the farm I think it will go along just fine and them being very happy, but if it comes to battle it may be tough to pull through.
