Virgil Peavey sees many news things as he joins his company and heads to Montgomery, AL. What is his perspective on the war? What about the other men in his company?
The white-haired schoolmaster certainly has a different perspective than most of the folks on the train. What is his perspective?
Compare the two.
He obviously wanted the confederacy to win the war. He and his company's perspective on the war is that its "as good won". As for the school master he definitely feels strongly about how everything that the troops had were made in the north. What about the north needing cotton that is supplied by the south?
ReplyDeleteBrian I like you response to the question I agree that he wants the Confederacy to win the battle. What do you think he will do when he joins. I think that he will get into trouble be cause he seem a little to excited about his side because if they loose the war ( which they did) I think that he will be very very angry.
DeleteHi avery. I agree with both you and Brian in that he wants the south to win. Oh because is one word. I agree that he will be angry but he was wrong and his side lost.
DeleteMany of the men on the train are secessionists or they left the union and joined the confederacy. They are having a good time they climb on the roof and sing. They start to love the war but they don't know what there getting themselves into. The teacher points out that the clothes they ware and the guns they have and the tombs they will get are all made in the union countries. The school teamer hates the war.
ReplyDeleteTrue but he was from the north and headed for the south, don't you think that's dangerous?
Deleteit could be. but you would be pretty safe because most of the journey is in the south.
DeleteYour'e wright, but remember that the train through the old man off the train when they found out he was for the Union
DeleteThe white haired school master's perspective is that every thing they have from there wedding to there clothes. A he said in the book "Every secionests are woven in massachusets there wedding ring from Rhode island and something about horses.

Deletesorry I meant to say "Every secionests swaddling clothes are woven in Massachusets"
DeleteVirgil believes that the war is "as good as won." He thinks that the North will not fight back. They are celebrating their detachment from the "Yankee tyrants" before the war is even fought. All the other men think the same. They are all celebrating. It is odd how much confidence they have. They know that they are going to win. I wonder how they felt when they started losing. It must have been like a slap in the face. The white-haired schoolmaster thinks that it might not be such a good idea to separate from the North. He knows that because the North is so industrialized most of the Rebel's material things are made in the north. The man should have kept his thoughts to himself because the company was seriously thinking about killing him. He has a point. If the south had won, the two portions would have to create an agreement for trade because they both need each other.

ReplyDeleteanyway i read that they were getting hit by bad smelling ugly hobos!
ReplyDeleteVirgil Peavey absolutely wants to have the confederates to win, thats why he is a secessionist. It makes no sense to secede before a war even starts. The school master on the other hand thinks the Civil War is a stupid thing and he wants it to not happen. Virgil thinks that it should be a great time.
ReplyDeleteVirgil wants the confederates to win. The school master does not really like the war at all and he does not really want it to happen.
ReplyDeleteWhen the train comes into the station he is scacred when the train goes in the station. "MInd the undertow!" "Snorting steam like a dragon". He dashed away from the tracks. So he was really scared or wanted to live.
ReplyDeleteVirgil walked forty miles with the rest of the company to catch the train t montgomery, and it was the first locomotive he had ever seen, and he said " didn't she come charging into the station, snorting steam like a dragon!" "mind the under tow" then someone called " don't get sucked under!" and then he dashed away from the tracks. so i think that he was really scared.
ReplyDeleteHis pespective about the war is that he wants the south to win so that slavery will go on. The school techers pespective is that he just wants to fight and get it over with. There is a problem thow for the north because if thay want cotten then thay have to get throw the south but thay are in battle with them!
ReplyDeleteVirgil Peaveys perspective on the war is that he thinks that the war is good as won that the union should give up...so why not celebrate with drinking and such
ReplyDeleteso there was this school master who just shook his head.......I don't think he really agrees...
Nice Autumn did you really have to add the celebrating with drinking part? I know it said it in the book but.
DeleteVirgil Peavey just wants the Confederates to win the war. He thinks that the Union will give up right away. The other men want to help the war to and wants the Confederates to win.
ReplyDeleteThe schoolmaster doesn't really like the war he's not really happy about it happening.
Virgil Peavy took locomotive with a lot of drunken men from the Southern military after he had walked forty miles. He is with the Confederacy (South) and not the Yankees (North) he thought the war was as good as won by the south but he didn't know that and didn't know what was going to happen and had seen LOCOMOTIVE!!! He was afraid of it and jumped back to not get sucked under after a man had yelled "don't get sucked under the undertow".
ReplyDeleteVirgil Peavey says that the Southerns (including him) will beat the North (Yankees), but the old school master has a different opinion. The schoolmaster thinks that the south needs the supplies that they get from the North. Supplies like clothes and jewelry.
ReplyDeletehe says the south will win with out a doudt like they got this one in the bag
